Are you feeling frazzled and looking for some self-care ideas for moms? Moms have a lot going on and usually, we forget to take care of ourselves since we are too busy taking care of everyone else! Sometimes it is good to step back from everything and make sure that you take care of you.
What is self-care? It is taking time for yourself to do the things that you enjoy (think back to even before you were a mama).
Self-care is realizing that even if motherhood is keeping you busy and taking up all of your time, you still need to pay attention to your own well-being.
Having a good self-care plan will help you recharge and give you a positive energy that will radiate back towards your children and family.
Here are some awesome self-care ideas for moms that you can try out:
Health and fitness self-care ideas for moms
Working out
Depending on what you prefer, you can either go to a gym, attend classes or workout at home. There are a lot of free apps, videos, and online workouts that you can try out and it is more convenient. Once you keep active and exercise, you won’t only improve your physical health, but you can also feel better in general.
Sleep
Getting sufficient sleep is vital for any human being to function properly, but especially for busy moms who need to keep their sanity. Sleep is your best friend so try to get enough of it as much as you can.
Take a walk outside
Fresh air can do wonders and apart from getting your daily exercise in, taking a walk can also help clear your head and is good for your soul. Push your babies in the stroller. They will love getting out too!
Keep hydrated
I get way more headaches as a mom and most of the time it is because I’ve forgotten to stay hydrated. Sometimes drinking water is the last thing on the mind of a busy mom but keeping hydrated is essential in order to prevent headaches, fatigue, and low energy levels so fill up your water bottles and drink water throughout the day.
Don’t skip breakfast
Don’t rely on coffee alone or getting bites from your child’s breakfast (I’ve totally been guilty of eating that piece of half-eaten toast and calling it good!). Get a good nutritious breakfast to start off your day on a high note and be productive the rest of the day.
Personal care and development for moms
Doing activities you used to love
Sometimes because of our kids, we aren’t able to do the things we once loved to do simply because we don’t have the time. Try to make a list of these things and make time for them or find a way to include your kiddos.
Before becoming a mom I used to love to play the guitar and sing. For the first couple years, my guitar sat collecting dust because I didn’t have time. But now I try to break it out once a week and sing fun kid songs to my little ones…turns out they love it too!
Getting to do your hobbies will remind you of the interests that you used to enjoy before kids came around!
Bath time
Sometimes having a nice warm bath with a cup of hot cocoa (or any hot drink) is a good way to take time for yourself and feel refreshed and calm afterward.
I love grabbing a bath bomb and taking a few minutes for myself. It soothes sore muscles and leaves me feeling totally refreshed.
Let go of things you can’t control
Sometimes you need to accept that not everything will go the way you want it to and that’s fine! Let dad take some of the responsibilities and try not to worry too much. Your kiddos will only be little for so long. Try to slow down and enjoy!
Don’t compare yourself to other moms
With the influence of social media in today’s world, it is easy to look at other people’s lives and feel the need to compare or feel like something is lacking. Sometimes you would need to take a step back from social media and just enjoy what you have.
I seriously have unfollowed (not unfriended) other mamas on Facebook because I was totally getting bogged down by comparing myself to them.
Remember people usually only post their best on social media! Don’t compare your worst to their best!
Challenge your brain
Sometimes all moms can think about revolve around their baby and everything they need. It can be helpful to take a break once in a while and challenge that intellectual side of your brain by solving puzzles, play chess, read books, or anything that can stimulate that part of your brain.
Audiobooks are also great alternatives because you can listen to it while going for a walk or doing other chores.
Girls night out
Take some time off and spend girls night with your mom friends and don’t bring the kids. Talking with another “grown-up” can be so refreshing.
It can definitely re-energize you and also gives you the chance to talk and share ideas with other people who are going through the same thing as you are right now. You might even gather some self-care ideas for moms that you can add to your list.
Treat yourself
If you have been eyeing those pair of shoes or a bag, then go ahead and give yourself a reward for being an awesome mom. Moms are often busy buying everything for their children that they forget to include themselves in the mix. Every once in a while, it’s nice to get a little something special for yourself.
Get some alone time in
Even if it’s just some time for yourself to take deep breaths, sometimes you need that space to regroup and de-stress. You can write on a journal, listen to some calming music, or just do some calm reflection.
